Davene Harris Memorial Scholarship

Davene Harris Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Davene Harris wished to honor her memory with a scholarship for a senior with financial need and pursuing higher education. Mrs. Harris served in the Hamilton City Schools for 27 years in various capacities from Library Aide to Building Secretary. She left a legacy of faith, dedication and integrity to all who knew her. She never missed an opportunity to encourage others, especially students. The scholarship is intended to continue this encouragement by assisting young people who have done the best they could academically and are intent on realizing their full potential and purpose. Davene devoted most of her time to her church, Immanuel Baptist, where she was involved as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. Her other favorite past-time was her grandchildren. Mrs. Harris was the wife of Lonnie Ray Harris and the mother of Jeff Harris and Michelle Harris Fall.

Impact

Since its establishment in 2004, the Davene Harris Memorial Scholarship, in partnership with the Hamilton Community Foundation, has awarded more than $11,000 in scholarships to students pursuing higher education.
