Charles Dees, Delores Dees Kees and Bernice Dees Cullinan Award

This scholarship was established by the family of Charles Dees. He was born in Hamilton and employed by Mosler Safe Company in the development of the drive-in depository system for banks. Charles traveled throughout the United States installing this equipment. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Owanna in 1945. They had three children, Patricia, Stephen and Rebecca. Charles passed away in March 2005.

Delores Dees Kees was born in Hamilton and resided in Brookville, Indiana. In her younger years she lived in Ross, Ohio and attended Ross school and went on to attend Miami University. She was a LPN in the healthcare industry. She was a member of the Morgan Township Historical Society. She had two daughters, Kathy Nunier and Noreen Northness. Delores passed away in April 2006.

Bernice E. Dees Cullinan, a resident of New York, is a renowned author of children’s literature. She has written more than 30 books on literature for classroom teachers and librarians. She was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame and the Ohio State University Hall of Fame and selected as the recipient of the Arbuthnot Award for Outstanding Teacher of Children’s Literature. Ms. Cullinan passed away February 2015.

Impact

Since its establishment in 2005, Charles Dees, Delores Dees Kees and Bernice Dees Cullinan Award , in partnership with the Hamilton Community Foundation, has supported students pursuing a career in education.
